The South Bend Blue Sox played in the All-American girls professional baseball league. They were on the field from 1943 to 1954. While representing South Bend, Indiana they won quite a few championships. They had the best record in 1949. They won 75 and lost only 36 games. Unfortunately, they were swept 4-0 in the playoffs.

They peaked in 1951-52 when they won back to back championships. However, the final two years they finished in last place. The South Bend team had six strong players who were the only players to play the whole time the league was in existence.

Two of the pitchers on the Blue Sox team could hurl the ball with great success. Unimaginably, in 1943, Margaret Berger and Doris Barr pitched in 79 out of 91 games. Berger pitched in a 13 inning shut out.

Dorothy Schroeder was a 15 year old young founder of the league. She became the only player that played all 12 years in the league. She was a phenomenal shortstop and three time all star. Schroeder spent her first two years with the Blue Sox. After 1954 she played in a US-Canada touring league, playing a total of 15 years of professional baseball.

Though the Rockford Peaches were only around for 12 seasons dating from 1943-1954, they left an undeniable mark on the landscape of American baseball history. With an astounding 4 titles to their name the team has been memorialized in the annals of Baseball’s Hall of Fame as well as Hollywood Movies.

Also of note the team went through 6 managers and had All-Star caliber players such as Carolyn Morris at pitcher, as well as infielder Dottie Kamenshek.

Morris had an overall record of 80 wins and 43 losses with with a stingy 1.55 ERA, as well a perfect game pitched in 1947 to win the league title.

Kamenshek began her baseball domination at the rare age of 17. While most kids were struggling to earn a high school diploma, Dottie was making opponents suffer. With a liffetime fielding average of .950 she also was the league’s all time batting leader, leaving no one to wonder why she was picked for the All-Star team 7 times.

No less amazing was Sports Illustrated naming her the 100th greatest female athlete in the 20th century.

Unlike in the film, A League of Their Own, the Peaches never played for the title in 1943.

It didn’t happen exactly like that.

The American Women’s Baseball Federation is still playing, they have been playing since 1992. They keep an eye out for promising young girls, they even have a database full of them.
This list is sent out when it is time to have tryouts for the World National Team this data base is sent to the coaches and they help field a winning a national team.

The Women’s Baseball Federation also holds regional and National tournaments. Since the purpose of the Women’s Baseball Federation is to organize existing teams, teams who didn’t even know about each other can end up playing in the National Championship.

Yes they have a National Championship. If a group is going to organize teams together and create tournaments for teams to play in, they should have a national championship.

This year the title of National champion went to the Chicago Pioneers. The women can get a national title, your turn Men’s baseball.

There’s a saying that what men can do, women can do better! This saying is absolutely true when it comes to the American baseball. Women have changed this game for the better and are setting the pace that is leaving many men amazed at what their counterpart s are doing.

The history of women baseball federation goes all the way back to 1860s at Vassar College in New York United States. This saw the commencement of baseball league and a match played between two renowned teams; the Blondes and Brunettes in spring field Illinois. With time, this game became popular among women and thus the need to have a federation emerged. The very first women baseball federation was formed in 1992 with the aim of organizing women’s team across the United States organize tournaments at different levels. Since then the American women baseball federation has organized over 17 tournaments at regional and national level around the country.

American women’s baseball boasts of prominent players who have been well recognized and appreciated too. The legendary Lizzie murphy also known as the queen of baseball was the first woman to play in the major league baseball game in 1922. Other notable players include Amanda clement, the first woman to be paid to umpire baseball game in 1904 and Edith Houghton, the first woman to scout for major leagues in 1946.its quite notable that the women baseball has come a long way.

So many leagues have taken place, many of which at the heart of women baseball history in the United States. Many countries such as china, Canada and japan have been so impressed at what the American women have achieved such that they too have participated in this game too. You can have your first share by supporting the American women baseball federation as they hope to join the rest of exhibit sports at the Olympics.

We’re going to do something a little different with this post and that’s address your real life. If you’ve got a daughter who’s interested in playing basketball, great! Here’s how to keep her interest up and nurture her love for the game:
Get some games: There are plenty of televised WNBA games, believe it or not, so check your local directv specials to see who carries what. If you start watching with your daughter she’ll develop favorites which will encourage her love.
Get a goal: No, a REAL basketball goal. Put one up above the garage so your girl can practice anytime she wants – she’ll get better accuracy and it will encourage her to invite friends over to play, a win win since you’ll be able to keep tabs on them easily.
Get her signed up: If there’s a league or even a school team you think she can join, pursue it. Encourage her to give her all at practice and go to each and every game you can. If she sees you care, she’ll care more and it will help your family bond.

Remembering the All American Girls- Professional Softball League and the All-American Girls Baseball League means remembering the best female runners, short-stops, coaches and yes pitchers. Women played a heavy role in baseball throughout 40-s because of the war and made tremendous strides in their efforts.

Womens baseball started because girls love the game too. For many years it was just a game for men but when the war came the men had to go fight and there weren’t enough left to keep the game going. Girls were recruited from all over the country and the best were signed up to play. From the best catchers to the best sliders to the best pitchers – the game of baseball had to go on.

One of the first great female pitchers to emerge was Connie Wisniewski in 1945. Connie-s earned average was 32-11. Then there was Doris Sams, pitching for the Muskegon Lassies in 1947 who had an 11-4 average at 280 BA. There was also Alma Ziegler and Jean Faut. Jean played from 1951 to 1953.

Both Alma Ziegler and Connie Wisniewski were with the Grand Rapids Chicks and contributed much to the game of baseball during their time. The impact that women had and have on the game of baseball cannot be understated. They kept the game alive, fun and relevant for many years as they made their mark in history.

Starting with Lisa Leslie, from the University of Southern California, Katrina McClain Johnson, from the University of Georgia, Teresa Edwards, from the Universiity of Georgia, Sheryl Swoopes, from Texas Tech, Dawn Staley, from the University of Virginia, Jennifer Azzi, from Stanford University and Rebecca Lobo, from the University of Connecticut.
Each one of these players was an outstanding basketball player in college, but what made each one special is the way they came together to win the gold medal, undefeated, in the 1996 Olympics. After the Olympics, this highly talented team of outstanding women became the nucleus of the highly successful WNBA, the only professional women’s basketball team to ever receive the support of the National Basketball Association.
